Summary

This is a leadership role. The Detailing Manager leads a small group of steel detailers located in-house and/or through contracted service providers through all aspects of detailing projects, as well as performing the essential duties and responsibilities listed below, and other related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the schedule and assignment of detailing work for our teams.
  • Ensure fabrication and erection drawings have been reviewed for completion, accuracy and compliance with client’s fabrication and erection needs (per contact).
  • Manage the preparation and coordination of shop drawings.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Project Manager regarding utilization of outside detailing and engineering firms.  
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among the project management, estimating and detailing team; including Southeastern Stair & Rail, Shewmake, and Em-Co Metal
  • Oversee both direct reports and the comprehensive development and training of detailing employees and external detailing resources. This encompasses the establishment of detailing protocols, resources, and standards.
  • Ensure adherence to AISC detailing standards.
  • Ensure all actions and directives are in conformance with OSHA and MSPI safety regulations, fostering a secure and healthy workplace environment. Demonstrate vigilance in your surroundings and assume responsibility for both your own safety and that of your colleagues.
  • Responsible to act in accordance with the policies set forth in the Macuch Steel Employee Handbook

Must be a highly motivated, results-driven self-starter who excels both independently and collaboratively on various projects. Strong organizational skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office are essential. The candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrate professionalism in interactions with others. In addition to the core responsibilities outlined below, the candidate will perform related tasks as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Including, but not limited to:

  • Conduct thorough reviews and analyses of construction plans, documents, specifications, and contracts associated with your projects.
  • Manage the planning, organization, and control of diverse projects of varying scales and types.
  • Effectively communicate with vendors, general contractors, architects, engineers, detailers, subcontractors, and company personnel promptly
  • Cultivate and strengthen relationships with customers and other stakeholders.
  • Establish and oversee project timelines and milestones to ensure adherence to schedule and delivery of key objectives.
  • Obtain and approve vendor quotes.
  • Oversee and facilitate vendor operations, encompassing key stakeholders such as Detailers, Erectors, Joist and Deck suppliers, etc., ensuring adherence to timelines and standards of performance.
  • Verify that drawings intended for release for Fabrication and Erection undergo thorough review to confirm their completeness, accuracy, and alignment with the client’s fabrication and erection requirements as stipulated in the contract.
  • Problem Solving
  • Oversee shipping schedules
  • Analyze, revise, and/or authorize change orders.
  • Conduct Work In Process (WIP) to ensure accurate job cost tracking and analysis.
  • Monitor and manage customer billing and payment status.
  • Perform scope reviews.
  • Execute responsibilities in alignment with the latest edition of Macuch’s Project Management Manual.
  • Assist in the development and training of new Project Management team.
  • Jobsite visits require some travel.

Summary

This role is responsible for cutting, fitting, and welding structural steel components according to shop drawings and specifications. The fabricator ensures accuracy, quality, and safety in all work, supporting efficient shop operations and timely delivery of projects. The ideal candidate has strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

OTHER SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficient with cutting torch to cope and detail components for proper fit up
  • Knowledge of a variety of structural members (beams, channel, angle)
  • Layout of holes, cut outs, notches, etc. to specified dimensions and within noted tolerances.
  • Must be able to identify and gather components needed from BOM.
  • Ability to plan work and keep projects on schedule
  • Must be able to pass a basic tack test and fillet weld test

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to walk and stand throughout an eight to twelve-hour workday.
  • Must be able to consistently lift 80 lbs.
  • Must be able to repetitively use arms, hands, and fingers in the manipulation of parts and weld gun
  • Must demonstrate good hand/eye coordination
  • Must demonstrate good manual dexterity
  • Must be able to read, evaluate, and respond to product specifications and drawings, and perform normal math calculations easily
  • Must have strong general mechanical skills
  • Must be able to pass drug and criminal background screenings
